The medical program at UBFM is of 6 year duration, covering basic, clinical and public health sciences edar, summer rotations for clinical practice and internships. Students enroll in medical school just after high school completion, with very different levels of knowledge and skills in informatics upon medical school entry.

Most high schools include components of informatics in their curricula, but they are focused largely on tools of productivity (Microsoft Office use, email etc.
